He is a member of the China bird society, a member of the Chinese film society, a member of the Chinese Film Directors Association, a member of the Chinese documentary Working Committee, a director of the Shandong Photographers Association and vice chairman of the Weihai Oil Painting Society

September 2007, Lao Yuan won the Asia prize for the Golden Panda award at the ninth Sichuan International Television Festival
